the candle of sight. |
Since the early 1990s, ORBIS has been receiving constant support from the
Macau community. Hundreds of people from
Macau make regular donations to ORBIS’s monthly donation program, and many more make one-off donations to support ORBIS’s sight saving mission. During the past decade, the

Eye
Hospital has visited
Macau three times to meet its donors and members of the local communities.
In order to further cement its ties to
Macau, ORBIS officially registered and formed its office on
June 20, 2006. The key objective of the Macau office is to actively promote ORBIS’s mission locally, to increase public awareness of the need for eye care and to encourage people in the city to support the fight against global blindness.
A major event, “Open Eyes Worldwide Photo Exhibition and Pin Day Award Ceremony,” was held in October 2006 to raise public awareness of ORBIS's global blindness problem as well as the importance of caring for one’s eyesight. Topics covered included surgeries taking place aboard the

Hospital, patient recoveries and the state of medical facilities in impoverished villages. Government health officials and representatives of corporate sponsors all joined hands to deliver a blessing of good eye health to not only the people of
Macau, but also to the world’s 150 million visually impaired people.
Besides raising funds to restore the sight of those living in darkness, ORBIS Macau is also dedicated to promoting the importance of healthy eyes through various fundraising and educational campaigns.
